Adam Miller: September 4th Opening Reception

Please join Mosquito Hawk Gallery in welcoming Adam Miller. Known for his contemporary figure paintings, he has been described as a "rising star of realism". At the young age of 16, he was accepted into the prestigious Florence Academy of Art in Italy. Classically trained, he studied the masterpieces of the Renaissance and post academy traveled extensively throughout Europe to study the masters. Adam Miller, who "would be considered a master in any era", has been commissioned by Robert Pamplin Jr, Chairman of the Board of the Portland Art Museum and Eric Rhodes, publisher of Fine Art Connoisseur. He has exhibited in both the U.S. and Europe. Opening reception is Saturday, September 4, 5-8pm and is available for viewing through October 4th.

September Show Rescheduled

Insula, our show focusing on the people of Shelter Island is being rescheduled from September 4 to sometime in November 2010. We had an overwhelming response from the island community and would like to allow more time for those who wish to share their stories and photos to do so. We are taking photos of Shelter Island residents for the month of August from 4-7pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Mosquito Hawk Gallery. We want to take your photo

We want to take your photo. Work is beginning on a special show entitled "Insula". The show seeks to capture the character of the island through a series of portraits of the people who reside on Shelter. The series will string together the identity of a complex and beautiful place. Portraits will be shown at the gallery in September along with other work depicting the island. Come to the gallery at 24 North Ferry Rd. any Tuesday or Thursday, 4-7pm during the month of August. Bring a prop that defines you. Allow 15 minutes.

Portrait of an Island Photography Classes

Students will learn the art of documentary storytelling focusing on place and portraiture. Open to ages 13-18 years. Two classes per week, Mondays and Fridays, 5:30-7:30pm, beginning July 19 for a total of five weeks. Darkroom usage times to be announced. Will provide Holga Camera, film, photo paper, basics of camera usage and photography skills, darkroom access, framing/matting of finished pieces and an opportunity to exhibit work at the gallery. Instructor is Alexis Martino, gallery owner and Ross School Chair of Media Studies. Cost is $550 per student. Up to four scholarships will be provided. "Eleuthera", a solo show of Mary Larsen paintings. Eleuthera is an island in the Bahamas, the origin of the word is "freedom".
