Ludic Fuel

Mosquito Hawk Gallery invites you to our new exhibit, Ludic Fuel, curated by Molly Morgan Weiss. This show brings together a group of young artists whose work combines unadulterated and creative play with slyly comic visions of the contemporary moment. Ludic Fuel examines subversive ways that a comic vision can fuel artistic representation. Grant Haffner, a successful East End painter, uses bold colors to illuminate the open road and the horizon. Grant started Bonac Tonic, a youthful artistic movement encouraging everyone to “just make art.” Ben Kuester focuses on kinetic art. The viewer actively participates combining common artist mediums such as paint and canvas and uncommon tools in the form of a bicycle. Ryan Duff is debuting his first show. His paintings depict surreal playful elements in an alternate universe. Jason Villegas taps into several mediums from drawings using found objects to sculpture to create comic and sometimes absurd statements about the world. Justin Smith, also a member of Bonac Tonic, creates a social and environmental commentary through work that is comic book inspired. Leat Klingman introduces us to her latest puppet characters Wolfy, Mister Pink and Horsy in her videos. Ethan Abramson, a furniture designer, treats each piece as a sculpture. Matthew Brophy, influenced by contemporary culture combines tape, shapes and colors.
